You Are A Light! By Sherry Lush

In Torah portion VaYak’ehel/Pekudei, Pastor Mark brought out the importance of light! Exodus 40;25 says, “Moses lit lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.” In Genesis 1:3,4, G-D said, “Let there be light; and there was light. And G-D saw that light, that it was good; and G-D divided the light from the darkness.”

In Psalm 119:130 and Proverbs 6:25, we are reminded that the “Word of G-D is light, the commandments are a lamp, and the Torah is light.”

Yeshua tells us in Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world ,,, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

All these verses together show us that in order for our light to shine, we need G-D’s Word in us, and we need to follow the commandments and Torah. His Word, the commandments, and Torah (G-D’s instructions to us) are supposed to produce something in us. They are supposed to produce good works. Those good works, which we do for others, are what makes our light shine. They show people that Yeshua lives in us. When we do good works for the right reasons, G-D gets the glory. That is our ultimate goal in doing good works; to shine the spotlight on G-D who has given us the strength and ability to do something for someone else.

I saw a sign the other day that said the following:

You are a menorah
You came to this world
to bring light wherever there is darkness

You are the light of the world. How are you letting your light shine today?
