Torah Meditations – Nasso – 6/6/20 – The Priestly Blessing

If you speak to someone on your bent knees, you are humbling

Yourself before that person!  Your position is showing honor to the person

                 before whom you are kneeling.

Now imagine G-d – the Almighty G-d – coming to you on bent knees! Numbers 6:23-27 In this way you shall bless the sons of Israel saying to them, The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. And they shall put My name upon the sons of Israel, And I, I will bless them.

The Hebrew word “bless” comes from the root word barak, meaning knee and meaning to kneel. From this we see that the LORD is kneeling to give us a blessing!

He is coming on bent knee to a bless us!

Psalm. 95:6 O, come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel (barak) before the LORD our maker.

What is your response to the God who comes on bended knee to bless you?

Another incredible aspect of the Priestly Blessing is that G-d is speaking to YOU as

An individual – Though the blessing is being spoken over a group, He is speaking

To YOU individually.  We see this in the Hebrew also.  Every time the word YOU is used it is in the SINGULAR!!! He is speaking directly to YOU! He has YOU in mind while He is blessing You on bended knee. YOU – Individually!

Read the Priestly Blessing again – slowly – with the Hebrew understandings of the words Bless – to kneel and YOU as an individual in mind.

Numbers 6:23-27 In this way you shall bless the sons of Israel saying to them, The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.  The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.  And they shall put My name upon the sons of Israel And I, I will bless them.

What is your response to the G-d who comes on bended knee to bless you?
