Torah Meditations from Ezra 6/6/20

What will our testimony be as we go through these days of chaos and uncertainty?

Let’s look at Ezra for a great example.

Ezra and the Jews who had returned with him from Babylon, were welcomed back to Jerusalem by piles of rubble and enemies who used their political influence to stop them from rebuilding the Temple. And the political bullying worked – it stopped them from building. After years of neglecting the job they had returned to do, G-d sent the prophets to both chastise and encourage. Then standing shoulder to shoulder, stone by stone, they got the job done.

Ezra returns to Babylon, and the Lord blesses them with money right out of King Artaxerxe’s treasury for the purposes of the Temple. He loaded Ezra and his companions up with silver and gold! Now they had to make a dangerous 1,000 mile journey back to Jerusalem, and they couldn’t ask for protection, because they had bragged about the strength of the G-d of Israel.

Now read Ezra’s testimony at the end of the journey!!

Ezra testified this: ”The hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambushes by the way.”

1. How does this encourage you in today’s world?

2. Tell of a time that you know the hand of our God was on you and delivered you.

And what was Ezra to do now?

Ezra 7:10 Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

1. Where was Ezra’s focus to be?  Where should our focus be?

 2. What are the two things Ezra was to be doing?

We’ve been given a job to do – Build the Kingdom of G-d! No enemy can stop this work – even in chaotic times. Like Ezra, we are to be focused on studying the Word. Then go out and do it – apply what you are learning – help people – do what you can in your house or neighborhood or town. And as Yeshua said, Make disciples. Disciples are students, so teach others the Word of G-d.

                                           What will our testimony be?
