Torah Meditations: Day 2 of Bamidbar

Do you ever feel like you don’t count? NOT true! You count to G-d. Have you ever noticed that you count what is important to you?  In today’s Torah Meditation, we will see that G-d counts the people.  Why? Because He cares about each one individually. He knows your name and where you are and even the day and month and year it is!

Numbers 1:1b-2a on the first of the second month in the second year after their exodus from the land of Egypt saying: Take a head count of the entire assembly of the children of Israel…..

1. Does G-d count the days, months and years? How does this encourage you?

2. Was anyone to be left out of this head count? Why does this matter?

Luke 12:7  Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows!

1. Why do these words give us comfort? From the above 2 verses, what are you noticing that G-d keeps track of?

Numbers 1:2-4 Take you the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls. From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel; you and Aaron shall number them by their armies.  And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.

Notice there is a special designation for going to war. There had to be a level of maturity.  I’ve heard it said that only those that spiritually graduated from the military could go to war.

1. Have we taken inventory lately to see if we are spiritually ready for war?

How can we be counted as mature in this area? I’ll suggest that STUDYimmersing yourself in the Word daily – is a tremendously important exercise in becoming spiritually ready.  Remember the Word is our weapon. Today is the perfect day to begin this discipline.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

1. What do we learn from Hebrews 4:12 that shows us how critical study of the Word is?

***Congratulations for being in the Word today – a true warrior getting ready for battle***

See you tomorrow as our adventure in the wilderness continues…………………
