Torah Meditation on Ezra/Nehemiah from May 23, 2020

Thank you, Pastor Mark for this incredible study and all the insights that you pack into each lesson – Truly Great!!!

Let’s have a quick review and let’s ask one question:

ARE WE DISTRACTED BY OUR ENEMIES?

1. King Cyrus Releases the Jews to Rebuild the Temple Proclaiming…

Ezra 1:2,3“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:

“‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them.

*Why were the people returning? __________________________________________

2. Approximately 50,000 people return to build.

3. Ezra 3:2b Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren….. builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

*What was the first thing to be built? _______________________________________

*What occurs at an altar? ________________________________________________

                           ***************ENTER – THE ENEMIES*****************

*Have you ever been in the process of building something for the Kingdom and an enemy entered? What happened to your work?

4. Ezra 4:6  At the beginning of the reign of Xerxes,[b] they lodged an accusation against the people of Judah and Jerusalem.  And in the days of Artaxerxes king of Persia,…….. his associates wrote a letter to Artaxerxes.

5. The “letter” stopped the work!

ARE WE DISTRACTED BY OUR ENEMIES?

WE ARE TO BE BUILDING THE KINGDOM OF G-D!

*********ENTER – 2 PROPHETS – HAGGAI AND ZECHARIAH**********

The words Haggai and Zechariah spoke to the children of Israel are equally as meaningful to us today as they were then. Let’s see why……….

And Haggai the prophet says:1:2-4 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.”

Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:  “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”

*Why is this question relevant to us today? *Is there something we are allowing to be more important that building His Kingdom today?

   * In the news today, we hear the longing of many Jews for the temple to be rebuilt!      *Should G-d’s house remain in ruins?

Haggai 2:4-5 But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.

*Pastor Mark reminds us that G-d never changes, so what are the words that Haggai spoke telling us today? *What are the key words in the above verses?

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind…..
