The Fixed Word by Sherry Lush

What can depend on not to change these days? Fake news, false prophecy, and COVID 19, which can strike anyone, anytime have all changed our lives in many ways. The internet is full of false information and politicians change the rules as they go along. There is not much that is stable, let alone “fixed.”

When you think of something as being fixed, words like ‘secure,’ ‘confirmed,’ ‘permanent’ or ‘set’ might come to mind. Fixed is something that is not going to change. “Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” (Psalm 119:89)

Not only is G-d’s Word fixed, but it is firmly fixed forever! You can depend on what G-d says: He is not going to change or vary in any way.

G-d’s Word is powerful! “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made and by the breath of his mouth all their host.” (Psalm 33:6) Power of this kind is contained in only one being, and that is our great G-d.

G-d’s Word is fixed forever and contains power that we can see around and above us every day. “Who didst establish the earth upon its foundations, that it should not be moved forever and ever.” (Psalm 119:104:5) Our feet stand on the terra firma that only the Creator could do and it will never go away! There is no other power that can hang planets in the sky without strings attached and they remain where He put them in their orbits! The earth is not going to be moved: it is forever and ever.

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our G-d stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)

Isaiah compared the never-changing word of G-d to flowers, grass, and people who do fade. Things that have a life span that will end. There is one thing that will never change – that has no expiration date – and that is the Word of our G-d.

Are you looking for something you can trust, something you can be sure of, something that will never change?

“For you have made your word greater than all your name. (Psalm 1:38-22b)

The world has become scarred with changing enemy voices. Death and doubt echo in our ears day after day, but let’s join the chorus in Joshua 1:8 as we are told to “Meditate in it (the word) day and night.

God’s word is Fixed!
