On Shabbat, Pastor Mark reminded us that G-d has a sense of humor, and that is something we can be truly grateful for as we were made in His image. It is easy to get a bit overwhelmed with all the bad news these days. Someone actually dubbed our days as “the aspirin age.” But even aspirin won’t cure what ails the earth today, so for believers, it is more important than ever to find joy and humor in life. When you think about it, our joy, especially in these days, may cause someone to ask us how we can have joy and laughter, and open the door for us to tell them about the Lord. As you read through the following verses, may you find reasons to laugh and take joy.
Genesis 21:6 Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”
The birth of a baby is a time to laugh and celebrate the goodness of the Lord who gives us the joy of new life. Children and their joy of life and willingness to trust is something to celebrate. And don’t we laugh with Sarah who gave birth at 90 years of age proving, nothing is impossible with G-d!
Job 8:21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.
Though Job had a rough road and was surrounded by bad news and problems of every kind, one of his friends spoke to him Job 8:21- “He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouting”. As well as finding laughter and joy every day, it is also so important to look forward to days of great laughter and joy! We can do this as the Lord told us we would go through these days prior to his coming. But know, He will yet come, and can we imagine the laughter and joy at His return? Our future is filled with joy!
Though the nations are in chaos right now, and everything seems tipped on its head with cherished freedoms evaporating before our eyes, the Lord our G-d has something to say about this:
Psalm 59:8 But You, O LORD, laugh at them; You scoff at all the nations.
Psalm 37:13 …but the Lord laughs, seeing that their day is coming.
His Word will be fulfilled and completed. Does this make you want to laugh right along with G-d? Their reign is given for His purposes, and it will not last much longer.
Proverbs 15:15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.
And how do we have the continual feast of a cheerful heart?
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.
Revelation 21:3,4 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
This is what we have to look forward to and so much more. We can laugh and take joy!
The Joy Of the Lord Is Our Strength!
