What brings you great delight? Maybe it’s spending time with a loved one or a special friend, or being at the beach on a beautiful day, or the smile of a child, or even a pet who bounces with excitement to express his love when you return home – all delightful things! So many things can cause our hearts to delight. If you are a parent, well behaved children who run to please you are an amazing delight.
Have you ever wondered what makes the heart of G-d delight, and do you want to be a source that will delight Him? How would this happen?
I Samuel 15:22 But Samuel declared: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obedience to His voice? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, and attentiveness is better than the fat of rams.
Just as parents delight in their children’s obedience, so the heart of G-d as a Father, delights in the obedience of His children! If we are obeying, then we are being attentive to His directions. Doesn’t that make obedience and paying attention an incentive to delight the heart of G-d?
Psalms 18:19-21 They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the Lord was my support. He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not wickedly departed from my God.
Now the above verses in Psalms are amazing because we know that there is no one righteous, not even one, yet, David proclaims his righteousness. This does not mean that David was perfect, but it means that he pursued righteousness – he chased after it. If you chase after something, it is important to you. You may fall as you chase it, but you get back up and keep chasing it. This way of life – chasing after righteousness – causes the Lord to delight! Everybody can do this! We can all chase after righteousness by doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord – by loving others and showing that love. Obey and be attentive to Him and pursue righteousness. When we live our lives according to these behaviors, we bring delight to our G-d!
How can we bring delight to the heart of G-d today?
